    Nielsen Selected as Preferred Data Supplier for Supervalu

    MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here has selected The Nielsen Company here as its preferred data supplier to support the retailer's category business planning efforts, effective immediately.

    MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here has selected The Nielsen Company here as its preferred data supplier to support the retailer's category business planning efforts, effective immediately.

    In its new partner role, Schaumburg, Ill.-based Nielsen will provide key data for Supervalu's category review processes. Additionally, Supervalu will align all of its business-planning processes, tools, templates and internal reporting with Nielsen to maximize efficiencies that benefit all of Supervalu's business channels.

    "Gaining insight into today's customer is the key to achieving success in today's competitive retail environment," said Duncan Mac Naughton, Supervalu's e.v.p./merchandising and marketing. "Nielsen's ability to meet our extensive data needs and their industry-leading competencies made them the clear choice to be our preferred information supplier. This partnership will help drive increased efficiency across a number of our business processes, and will provide our company with the tools and information needed to deliver what our customers want, when they want it."

    Mac Naughton added that establishing Nielsen as its preferred information supplier enables Supervalu to take advantage of relevant data, and deliver improved business processes and results for the company and its vendor partners.

    "Supervalu's custom program with Nielsen will automate, streamline, and simplify the category management process," said John Lewis, Nielsen North America's president and c.e.o. "Our partnership will provide efficiency through proprietary Nielsen technology, including information in Supervalu's Consumer Decision Trees (CDTs) with syndicated and Homescan data."
