Schnucks Announces Reopening Dates for Remaining Acquired Shop 'n Save Stores
The last 10 shop 'n Save stores that Schnucks recently acquired from Supervalu are slated to open under the Schnucks banner in October

Schnuck Markets has revealed opening dates for the remaining 10 stores and one standalone pharmacy gained through its recent acquisition of 19 Shop 'n Save supermarket locations.

Like the previous stores that reopened, these locations will be closed for 63 hours before reopening under the Schnucks banner. During the transition period, crews will switch out POS systems, rebrand signage and restock merchandise. More extensive remodels are scheduled for the near future.

The new stores set to open include one location each in O'Fallon, Mo.; St. Louis; and Wood River, Ill., on Oct. 17; one each in O'Fallon; St. Louis; East Alton, Ill.; and Belleville, Ill., on Oct. 19; and one each in Festus, Mo.; Edwardsville, Ill.; and Alton, Ill., on Oct 21. The standalone pharmacy, in Union, Mo., will reopen Oct. 19.

“We’ve seen with our first round of openings that customers are eager to return to their neighborhood stores as quickly as possible, and we’re just as eager to welcome them to Schnucks,” said Dave Peacock, Schnucks president and COO. “We want to thank the local leaders in each of the municipalities for working with us to make these quick turnarounds possible.”

Although the stores will be closed during the brief transition, existing pharmacy customers will still be able to drop off and pick up prescriptions during normal pharmacy hours. The Union store and one O'Fallon location will also offer a drive-through option for picking up pharmacy orders.

Due to continued evaluation of optional requirements for all acquired fuel centers, Schnucks has not yet set an opening date for the acquired Wood River fuel center.

Eden Prairie, Minn.-based retailer-wholesaler Supervalu Inc. last month entered into a definitive agreement to sell 19 of its 36 Shop ‘n Save grocery stores, all of which are mainly located in the St. Louis area, to Schnucks. Of the stores sold, 14 are in Missouri, and five are in Illinois.

St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets Inc. operates 102 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa, employing 13,000-plus associates. The company is No. 31 on Progressive Grocer's 2018 Super 50 list of the top grocers in the United States.
