    Giant Food Plans Prototype for Harrisburg, Pa.

    CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC plans to get a 98,000-square-foot store along the lines of its successful Camp Hill, Pa. prototype up and running in Harrisburg, Pa. by the end of 2008.

    CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC plans to get a 98,000-square-foot store along the lines of its successful Camp Hill, Pa. prototype up and running in Harrisburg, Pa. by the end of 2008.

    "The store will reflect many of the special features in our Camp Hill store, which we opened a year ago and which has been favorably received by our shoppers," said Gerry Adams, v.p. of real estate operations for Giant Food Stores, LLC.

    Among the Camp Hill location's many amenities are customer-friendly technology, and an emphasis on health and wellness that includes the presence of on-site nutritionist.

    The Giant Food prototype will anchor a new shopping center planned by Port Washington, N.Y.-based real estate investment trust Cedar Shopping Centers, Inc. The property will be renamed Blue Mountain Commons.

    Ahold-owned Giant Food operates 103 stores as Giant Food Stores, 119 as Tops Markets, and 26 stores as Martin's Food Markets. With nearly 38,000 employees, Giant serves a six-state market area including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, New York, and Ohio. The company recently agreed to buy 14 Clemens stores from Clemens Markets, Inc. in suburban Philadelphia.
