NEW YORK -- Aggressive retail meat executives seeking to take their differentiation strategies to the next level could learn firsthand new ways to do just that from industry experts who will convene later this month for a lively, interactive Webinar hosted by Progressive Grocer.
Sponsored by Progressive Grocer and the National Pork Board (NPB), "Kicking It Up a Niche In the Meat Case: The Potential Of Upscale Pork To Increase Fresh Meat Sales," will be a first-of-its-kind Web-based seminar for the retail meat industry.

The event will be headlined by special guests Kurt Luttecke, v.p. of meat, seafood, and foodservice for Boulder, Colo.-based Wild Oats Markets, Inc.; and Aileen Magnotto, co-owner of Hermitage (Pa.) Shop 'n Save. Larry Cizek, director of culinary and niche market development for the Des Moines-based NPB, will also present key insights on niche meats during the live event, including exclusive new research. The event will also feature Meg Major, Progressive Grocer's fresh food editor.
Major conducting live interviews with Luttecke and Magnotto, who will share their views regarding key consumer trends influencing fresh meat department sales, the role of store level training and education, the greatest opportunities impacting trading partner relationships, and branded and private label fresh meat products, among important topics.
"Kicking it Up A Niche" will further explore niche pork, a recently introduced market segment that offers quality-seeking consumers specific attributes not found in traditional commodity pork.
"The fresh meat category has factored heavily in discussions surrounding the burgeoning natural and organic foods movement," said Major.
