GrubMarket Acquires VIP Wholesale
GrubMarket is continuing to build its portfolio of Southern California wholesalers with the acquisition of VIP Wholesale in the San Diego area

GrubMarket, which delivers organic and local produce, meat, dairy, and more to customers at up to half off what they’d find at a typical grocer, has completed the acquisition of VIP Wholesale, formerly an independent family-owned supplier of produce and specialty foods to San Diego-area restaurants and grocery stores, which has earned a reputation for being able to source any specific food item requested, even unique and rare products.

The transaction is GrubMarket’s second Southern California acquisition this year, after its purchase of Commerce-based wholesaler Chasin Foods in January, as the company continues to beef up its strategic portfolio of wholesale companies in the region. Last June, GrubMarket acquired Vernon-based So Cal Farm Network, a purchaser and provider of farmer-identified seasonal produce.

As a result of the most recent acquisition, VIP will now be able to make use of GrubMarket’s extensive produce supply chain network and innovative technologies, among them the recently launched GWholesaler software suite. The supplier will remain based in San Diego, and the company will continue to be managed by its current leadership team, including CEO Huy Huynh, who has headed VIP for more than 15 years.

“GrubMarket recognizes the corporate values of VIP Wholesale and shares the same spirit as our team,” noted Huynh. “They are deeply aligned with our focus on providing maximum value to customers at all times. We look forward to leveraging this new relationship to further expand our business and grow our sales to the next level.”

In turn, San Francisco-based GrubMarket will leverage VIP’s expertise and geographical presence to grow its existing supply-chain capabilities across Southern California.

“VIP Wholesale is an incredibly reputable and longstanding food supplier in the San Diego region,” said GrubMarket CEO Mike Xu. “We sincerely look forward to welcoming them into the GrubMarket Family, as we have some exciting plans in the works.”
