SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Terry Reese Harmon, c.e.o. and chairman of the board of regional independent Harmons Grocery Stores here. died last week at the age of 66.
Harmon was at the head of a family-owned grocer started by his parents, Jake and Irene Harmon, in 1932. The Harmon family will continue to operate the business, which consists of 12 stores in Utah.
Terry started working at his parents' store in 1947 at the age of seven, and subsequently grew into several positions at the company, before becoming c.e.o. in 1976.
Harmon also served as president and a board member of the Utah Food Industry Association; was a member of the National Grocers Association, the Asparagus Club, and Honorary Lions Club; and received The Spirit of America Award from NGA.
Harmon is survived by his wife, as well as two sons, Bob and Randy Harmon, the company's spokesmen; and daughter Jamie.
