MAULDIN, S.C. - As part of its sponsorship of the USA Cycling Professional Road Race Championship, Bi-Lo Supermarkets here will award a "Race Fan BI-LO Bonus" to the best tailgate party watching the race in Greenville, S.C.
The event kicks off this weekend, as more than 100 professional road cyclists depart downtown Greenville for a 121-mile race to decide the U.S. national champion. The route will take cyclists from downtown Greenville and over Paris Mountain and back five times, each lap 21.85 miles, and then finish with three shorter in-town circuits.
More than 30,000 spectators are expected to watch the race. The fans with the best tailgate party will be awarded a $500 Bi-Lo Bonus Card on the final lap of the race, as determined by judges from Bi-Lo and B93.7, a local radio station.
"As a sponsor of the championship, Bi-Lo wanted to do something to engage our customers and show the racers and fans from across the country that Greenville is thrilled to have this event for the first time," said Dean Cohagan, president and c.e.o. of Bi-Lo/Bruno's. "Rewarding spectators along the route was a way we could encourage more people to come out and watch the race, and thank them for doing it."
