CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC here said yesterday it has promoted Jim Ware to the position of director of operations and merchandising.
Ware, who previously served as a grocery specialist for the retailer, is now responsible for the conditions and performance of all stores in the northeast Pennsylvania regions. He reports to Mike Baumeister, regional v.p. of retail operations in the East Region.
Ware succeeds Ken Schneider, who has moved to the company's Lehigh Valley market as district manager, Giant Food spokeswoman Pawelski told Progressive Grocer. No executive has been named yet to fill Ware's old position, she added.
Joining Giant Food Stores in 1987 as store manager at the Hazleton, Pa. store, Ware managed several other stores until 1997, when he became grocery specialist for the Edwards Division. Shortly afterward, he rose to become director of operations and merchandising for the division. When the company divested Edwards, Ware returned to Giant in 2001.
Giant Food, one of six retail-operating companies under Ahold USA, currently operates 103 stores as Giant Food Stores, 119 stores as Tops Markets, and 25 stores as Martin's Food Markets. With almost 40,000 associates Giant serves a six-state market area.
