BOULDER, Colo. -- Sunflower Market, a 12-store farmers' market-style chain here, has said it plans to open new stores in Colorado and New Mexico in the coming year.
The retailer will open its second Albuquerque store next year. The site was formerly occupied by a Sav-on Pharmacy. The new store will measure 28,000 square feet.
In Colorado the retailer plans to open a 26,000-square-foot Highlands Ranch store in an empty Mervyns stores early next year. This will be its third store in Colorado. The reetailer is in the process of building a fourth Colorado store at Highlands Garden Village in Denver.
Sunflower Market is owned in part by Mike Gilliland, the founder and a former principal of Wild Oats. The chain operates in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico. Its stores sell natural and organic products as well as wine and spirits.
