SALISBURY, N.C. -- From Aug. 6 through Sept. 2, Food Lion shoppers will have the opportunity to help local school kids by participating in the "Back Pack & Give Back" campaign.

Food Lion stores will offer pre-packaged back-to-school supply kits at the discounted price of $5.99. The school supply kits include pencils, filler paper, a glue stick, highlighters, a spiral notebook, a two-pocket folder, and hand sanitizer, plus manufacturer coupons worth approximately $5.50.

Food Lion customers are encouraged to purchase Back Pack & Give Back kits for their own students and local students in need. All donations will be added to the customer's total bill and shown on the receipt. Food Lion stores will collect and take all donated kits to nearby schools for distribution to underprivileged students.

"Getting a good start is important to having a successful school year," said Jeff Lowrance, Food Lion spokesman, in a statement. "The goal of the Back Pack & Give Back program is to provide school supplies to students who may not be able to purchase their own, helping them get a good start on the year."
