CINCINNATI -- The Kroger Co. here bowed its first ethanol-based E85 fuel station Monday, June 5, 2006, in Houston at 8550 Highway 6 North.
The environmentally-friendly alternative fuel station is the first of 18 that Kroger plans to open throughout the Dallas and Houston markets this summer, following necessary facilities upgrades to accommodate the E85 fuel, a gasoline alternative that is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.
Kroger is adding E85 fuel pumps at fuel centers in collaboration with the State of Texas, Detroit-based General Motors Corp. and St. Louis, Mo.-based Abengoa BioEnergy.
The chain said it will price E85 ethanol lower than regular unleaded gasoline. Kroger Plus Card customers will be able to gain additional per gallon savings.
