SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Golub Corp.'s Price Chopper Supermarkets here is now offering E-ZPass "On-The-Go" electronic toll payment tags to its New York state customers.
"We take pride in being more than just a supermarket," said Price Chopper community & public relations manager Barbara L. Page. "This additional service fits right into our one-stop-shopping philosophy."
Price Chopper received the tags through a new program by the New York State Thruway Authority. Shoppers buy the prepaid E-ZPass tags worth $25, which are activated upon purchase, then call an 800 number or visit www.ezpassNY.com to register the tags within 48 hours of their first use.
"The Authority's recent On-the-Go initiative is designed to increase the convenience with which Thruway customers can purchase E-ZPass," noted Thruway Authority executive director Michael R. Fleischer. "Making E-ZPass On-the-Go tags available at off-Thruway retail locations such as Price Chopper will allow Thruway customers to begin using the tag immediately and benefit from the time and cost savings."
As well as receiving a 10 percent discount on tolls, shoppers using E-ZPass can enroll in several commuter discount plans.
The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates over 100 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 23,000 associates collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
