WAWA, Pa. -- Wawa Inc. based here will be flying even higher in its hometown market when it opens a new store on the property of the Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
The 5,700-square-foot prototype unit will be more than double the size of many of the chain's existing stores and will employ about 60 associates. The new airport Wawa will have a deli, bakery, and gasoline, and will feature Blink technology for contactless credit-card transactions.
The store will mark Wawa's 41st store in Philadelphia and the second of three stores to open in the city this summer. The privately held c-store operator has more than 500 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
