GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- After a successful three-store test, Meijer here said it will roll out special shopping carts equipped with "TV Kiddie Karts" in all of its 175 stores in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.
The carts, which cost a dollar to rent, allow adult shoppers to choose from a selection of videos. Other Meijer stores gradually will get the TV Karts, which are made by Cabco Group Ltd. of Auckland, New Zealand.
Meijer introduced the cart last month as a test in its Chicago stores, each of which was provided six carts for parents to test-drive. "The feedback on the carts has been amazing," Jack Patty, the director of a Meijer store in Cascade Township, told the Grand Rapids Press. "By the middle of the day, people are lined up to get one," Patty added.
