PITTSBURGH -- Jim Lampl, director of conservation for Giant Eagle, Inc. here, was one of four individuals in three categories recognized by the Green Building Alliance with its 2006 Shades of Green Leadership Awards.

While Lampl has been involved with green expansion projects, the alliance said his award is not for individual "brick and mortar" projects, but "for the people driving programs, policies, initiatives and/or efforts that are leading our region toward a 'greener' economy."

Aside from Lampl, other Shades of Green awardees included city councilman William Peduto; Richard Piacentini, executive director, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens; and Jane Werner, executive director, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.
