The new Hy-Vee store, which will replace a current supermarket located just a few blocks up the street, will be nearly double the size of the store it is replacing, as the West Des Moines, Iowa-based chain's largest Sioux Falls store.

In addition to an expanded departments and a connected liquor store, the new Hy-Vee will feature a Starbucks kiosk, natural foods, and a Chinese restaurant. The pet and baby departments also will be expanded to offer a variety of items not currently sold in many of the older Hy-Vees.

The gas station will have about 12 pumps and a convenience store and is expected to open before the supermarket.

Hy-Vee, Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating 222 retail stores in seven Midwestern states. For 2005 the company recorded total sales of $4.9 billion, ranking it among the top 20 supermarket chains and the top 35 private companies in the U.S.
