WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Executive shuffling continues at Raley's here, as the chain said it rehired a former executive, Joel Barton, as s.v.p., sales & merchandising, to replace Kevin Curry, who left the company last month.
Curry's departure from the regional independent supermarket chain came on the heels of another exit, that of Raley's then-c.o.o. Dave D'Arezzo. A chain spokesperson said the two departures are not linked.
"Kevin Curry's departure was not related to Dave D'Arezzo's departure," Raley's spokesperson Nicole Townsend told Progressive Grocer. "Changes in leadership roles are not uncommon in the grocery industry--it's a very challenging and competitive time. With that said, Raley's is confident that we have plans in place that will bring new and exciting experiences to our customers and that ensure a strong future for our local, family-owned company."
Barton, Raley's new sales and merchandising exec, was most recently with Associated Grocers, Inc., Seattle. He is, however, a Raley's veteran who was with the company for 26 years until 1999, when he left for a position with Spartan Stores in Grand Rapids , Michigan . He will start again at Raley's on Feb. 6.
