CHICAGO -- Ready to celebrate its 80 years of business in style, IGA here said yesterday it has created an anniversary-themed marketing program, which officially begins in February of 2006.
The program will feature three newly created, consumer-driven marketing events designed to reward IGA's customers for 80 years of patronage. The events include an $80 Shopping Spree Sweepstakes, a Hometown Homeowners Sweepstakes, and an 80-cent IGA Brand Sale.
"For the last 80 years IGA's dedicated customers have enabled IGA to thrive," said Doug Fritsch, IGA v.p. and U.S. chief growth officer, in a statement. "Since the beginning, IGA has employed the 'Hometown Proud' philosophy that a supermarket can become much more than just a place that sells food -- it can be a true Hometown Proud Community Center. We have created a new marketing program that will support IGA's 'Hometown Proud' community connection by rewarding consumers with valuable prize packages and sponsor product sales. Equally important, we've provided elements to reward our valuable IGA Retailers for their loyalty and dedication."
A host of well-known manufacturers are sponsoring the program, including Campbell Soup Co., The Coca-Cola Company, Coca-Cola Hydration Unit, ConAgra Foods, Georgia-Pacific Corp., Kraft Foods, Nabisco, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, Nestlé USA, The J.M. Smucker Company, the WM. Wrigley Jr. Company, and Unilever.
The IGA $80 Shopping Spree Sweepstakes will take place Feb. 26-March 12. During the two-week timeframe, IGA Supermarkets across America will offer savings on brand-name consumer sponsor products, as well as the opportunity to enter to win an $80 shopping spree.
During the IGA Hometown Homeowners Sweepstakes, to be held April 23-May 7, IGA customers can purchase featured brand-name sponsor sale items from a shopping list for a chance to win the $80,000 Hometown Homeowners Grand Prize cash award. The $80,000 Grand Prize, which is to be applied toward the renovation of a home, a down payment on a new home, or a mortgage pay-off, will be awarded via a random sweepstakes drawing from all qualifying entries. Retailers may choose to extend the Hometown Homeowners Sweepstakes in-store event through July 4, IGA said. Drawing for the $80,000 Grand Prize will take place at the beginning of August.
The last event, the 80-cent IGA Brand Sale, will take place Aug. 21-Sept. 11. During the promotional period, selected IGA Brand items will be featured in store displays and value-priced for 80 cents.
For each of the events in the 2006 lineup, IGA Retailers will have an opportunity to win a share of an $8,000 cash prize just for participating in the event.
In addition, IGA Retailers can also win cash prizes by promoting the consumer elements of the event.
IGA is the world's largest voluntary supermarket network. The alliance includes more than 4,000 Hometown Proud Supermarkets worldwide, supported by 36 distribution companies.
