MINNEAPOLIS -- Greenspring Media Group here has launched a new national magazine for grocery consumers, Real Food, which is being distributed exclusively through grocers across the United States.

With the inaugural winter issue, which shipped last month, now in stores, the magazine's current retail partners are Lunds and Byerly's of Minneapolis, Milwaukee-based Sendik's, Los Angeles' Bristol Farms, and Highland Park Market of Manchester, Conn. The quarterly magazine began with a circulation of more than 200,000.

Real Food is designed for fresh-food enthusiasts who wish to simplify and enrich their lives by eating well. The publication also features an eight-page customized section specific to the magazine's retail grocery partners. The section is meant to showcase the expertise, friendliness, and approachability of the retailer, as well as the range of quality products available in its stores.

Greenspring spokeswoman Stacey Cunningham told Progressive Grocer that the process to launch Real Food began earlier this year with the four initial retail partners, and that the publishing company was "actively signing on [additional partners] as we speak." Cunningham characterized Greenspring's retail partners as those that were committed to a grocery relationship marketing tool: "It's about developing a relationship with customers."

According to Greenspring, the combination of national editorial and retailer-specific customized content in the magazine "provides a unique 'one-two punch' solution for readers, retailers and advertisers alike."
