NAPLES, Fla. -- The submission deadline for GEM Award -- which will be presented by Retail Systems Consulting at its conference this month -- is October 5.

The award will be given to companies that have exhibited excellence in electronic marketing over the past two years.

Sponsored by Accenture, the GEM awards will be presented at the annual GEMCON conference, which will be held Oct. 24-26 in Las Vegas. Award categories include Retailer, Wholesaler, CPG Manufacturer, System/Program Vendor, and System/Program Supporting Vendor. Last year, a new award was instituted that is based on excellence over time: The Al Lees, Jr. GEM Award.

In 2004, Stop & Shop, Paw Paw Shopping Center, and Supervalu's Midwest Region were the retailer and wholesaler award winners for excellence in electronic marketing. Other winners included Land O'Lakes (consumer packaged goods manufacturer), POSNet Services (system and program supporting vendor) and Webstop.com (system and program vendor).

"Every year, electronic marketing practitioners are more sophisticated, and the entries reflect that," said Michael Gorshe, executive director of retail and consumer packaged goods for Chicago-based Accenture.
