NATICK, Mass. -- BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. said this week that Richard Wilson has been appointed s.v.p. of general merchandise, to take on responsibility for the company's general merchandise category mix that ranges from domestics, electronics, giftware, seasonal merchandise, furniture, and books, to toys, and sporting goods.
Wilson, with over 20 years' experience as a senior merchandise manager in the department store industry, takes over from Edward Beevers, who will remain as a consultant to BJ's until he leaves the company at year's end.
Wilson came to BJs as v.p., divisional merchandise manager, in May from Federated Department Stores' Macy's division, where he served as s.v.p. for tabletop, luggage, and Macy's Home Store. Before he joined Macy's, Wilson was s.v.p. and general merchandise manager for the Home division of May Co. Department Stores' Filene's division. As BJ's new .v.p. of general merchandise, he reports directly to e.v.p. of merchandising, ex-grocer Karen Stout.
"Since joining the company last spring, [Wilson] has begun to make meaningful contributions in category assortments and presentations," noted Stout in a statement. "We are very grateful to Ed Beevers, who for more than 20 years has played a key role in BJ's growth and success."
BJ's operates 161 BJ's Wholesale clubs and two ProFoods Restaurant Supply clubs.
