JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. here submitted a notification of late filing for its annual report with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this week.
The company, which is operating under bankruptcy protection, said it is in the process of finalizing its annual financial statements, including determining the impact from Hurricane Katrina on its operations. Winn-Dixie holds the leading market share in New Orleans, and 24 of its stores in Louisiana, along with three stores in Mississippi, remain closed, according to information on its Web site.
In the SEC filing, Winn-Dixie said it expects a loss from continuing operations of about $666 million for fiscal 2005, compared with $50.8 million in the previous year.
