SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. Co. here, will hawk beer brewed by local Casco Bay Brewing Co., next month to raise funds for The Lobster Conservancy (TLC), a nonprofit organization that works with fishermen and volunteers in the Gulf of Maine region to sustain a thriving lobster fishery through science and community.
Donations are expected to accumulate at the rate of $1 per case sold at 46 Hannaford Bros. stores across Maine. Portland, Maine-based Casco Bay Brewing will also make contributions to TLC on sales of its products at participating pubs, restaurants, markets, and convenience stores.
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to support one of the state's vital industries," said Hannaford spokesperson Caren Epstein in a statement. "The partnership among Casco Bay Brewing, Hannaford supermarkets, and TLC highlights each organization's commitment to maintaining the viability of the lobster industry in the state of Maine."
"We support TLC's approach; they're bridging gaps and building community to help Maine lobster communities survive," noted Bryan Smith, owner and brew master at Casco Bay Brewing. "We understand the importance of the lobster industry to Maine. This promotion is Casco Bay Brewing's way of applauding TLC for what they're accomplishing."
Hannaford Bros. operates 142 supermarkets and food-and-drug combination stores in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts, and employs more than 24,000 associates.
