BOISE, Idaho -- Albertson's, Inc. yesterday donated $100,000 to America's Second Harvest Food Bank Network, as the food retailer launched a national fundraiser for hunger relief. This year's month-long fundraising campaign will utilize the Food for All programs available in the company's stores nationwide.
In recognition of Hunger Awareness Day, throughout the remainder of June all proceeds collected for Food for All in Albertsons' stores will go directly to support local America's Second Harvest food banks, which serve surrounding communities. Since first introducing the program in stores in 1987, Albertsons has raised more than $10 million for the Food for All program to benefit hunger relief efforts across the country.
"On Hunger Awareness Day and throughout the year, we are committed to making it easy for our customers and our associates to help families in need by giving them the opportunity to support hunger relief efforts in our stores," said Albertsons' chairman, c.e.o., and president, Larry Johnston. "Leveraging our base of 1,800 food stores, we will have a tremendous impact as we work toward ending hunger in the communities we serve."
Albertsons will also mobilize thousands of its associates through its volunteer program, CORUS, to support hunger relief activities, which will include local food drives and fundraisers across the country.
Food for All cards are available at the checkout stands in all Albertsons, Jewel, Acme, Shaw's, and Star Market stores, allowing customers to contribute $1, $3, or $5 toward hunger relief efforts. A different card represents each level of donation, and contains bar codes that allow it to be scanned at the point-of-sale.
While Food for All funds are typically distributed to several hunger relief agencies, during the month of June, Food for All donations at Albertsons will go directly to support local America's Second Harvest food banks.
