JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. here posted a $13 million loss for its third quarter ended April 6, according to its latest filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The regional retailer, which filed for Chapter 11 reorganization Feb. 21, reported net sales of $2.28 billion, compared to $2.4 billion in the same period last year.
The company earned $587 million in gross profit on sales, down from $648 million during the same period in 2004.
Earnings from continuing operations were 21 cents per share, up from eight cents per share. However, a 30-cents-per-share loss from discontinued operations resulted in an overall 9-cent loss per share for the third quarter of 2005.
Winn-Dixie borrowed $106 million during the quarter from its debtor-in-possession credit facility. It has borrowed a total of $440 million from the $800 million credit facility since filing for bankruptcy.
