    Redner's Readies for Two New Stores, Names New V.P.

    READING, Pa.--Redner's Warehouse Markets unveiled plans for two new locations in Hamburg and Whitehall Township, Pa., which will mark the regional family operator's 49th and 50th stores in eastern Pennsylvania.

    READING, Pa.--Redner's Warehouse Markets unveiled plans for two new locations in Hamburg and Whitehall Township, Pa., which will mark the regional family operator's 49th and 50th stores in eastern Pennsylvania.

    Eric B. White, corporate communications specialist, told Progressive Grocer the new Redner's stores symbolize that the privately held company is, "moving forward, adding new stores, and strengthening our foothold in the markets in which we are already operate."

    Construction for the new Hamburg Redner's will begin later this month in the Hamburg Commons Shopping Center, and is scheduled to open in June. The store is on a site previously occupied by an Ames department store and will measure approximately 56,000 square feet. The Hamburg location will be the 10th warehouse market in the chain’s home county.

    In adjacent Lehigh County, Redner's will build the Whitehall Township store, its fourth unit in suburban Allentown, Pa. Construction is expected to begin in May at the site of a former Drug Emporium. The store will be approximately 52,000 square feet and is tentatively scheduled to open in November.

    Both new Redner's units will offer in-store bakeries, full-service delis, fresh produce, meat and seafood departments, along with frozen, dairy, health and beauty aids/non-foods and grocery departments.

    In other news, Redner's promoted Robert McDonough to v.p. of human resources and made the executive a member of its board of directors.

    McDonough will oversee the human resource functions for Redner’s Warehouse Markets and its Quick Shoppe c-store division, inclusive all aspects of employee relations, training, payroll administration, compensation and benefits for the company's 4,000-plus associates.

    McDonough a 14-year Redner's veteran, previously served as director of corporate training and education.

    Redner's operates 37 Warehouse Markets and 11 Quick Shoppes throughout eastern Pennsylvania and New York.
