OMAHA, Neb. - The Baker's Supermarkets division of Kroger Co. will open three new supermarkets here within the next two weeks housed in former Albertsons locations, according to a published report.
The stores, located at 4405 N. 72nd Street, 12025 West Center Road, and 3614 Twin Creek Drive in Omaha, are being purchased from No Frills, which had purchased the stores from Albertsons when the chain announced in June that it was pulling out of the Omaha market.
Baker's is expected to keep open its existing store at 13215 West Center Road, about a mile from the former Albertsons location.
Hometown Baker's has been serving the Omaha area for 70 years, and is known for its selection and service. The chain has been voted Omaha's Most Preferred Grocery Store according to the Omaha World Herald Consumer Preference Studies for the last 23 years. Baker's had been run by Fleming Cos., but was sold to Kroger when the wholesaler filed for bankruptcy.
