INDIANAPOLIS - A new line of bacon and smoked sausage products linked to basketball legend Oscar (The Big O) Robertson will launch in Marsh Supermarkets this weekend. The items join several locally produced products sold exclusively by the Indianapolis-based retailer.
Oscar Robertson Signature Products are produced by Robertson's company, Oscar Robertson Foods, which is based in Fairfield, Ohio. The meat items being sold at Marsh include Ranch Brand Bacon, Peppered Ranch Brand Bacon, Hickory Smoked Bacon, and Old Fashion Smoked Sausage. They feature the logo found on the front of Robertson's new book, "The Big O: My Life, My Times, My Game," which also launches this weekend. Marsh will be selling the book in its stores as well.
"It's a special treat for Marsh Supermarkets to be working with a man whose name stands for top quality in both basketball and meat products," said Marsh chairman and c.e.o. Don Marsh in a press release. "And we're especially excited to distribute his meats in the heart of Indiana where he launched his storybook basketball career."
Robertson's basketball career started in Indianapolis. He went on to play in the NBA for the Cincinnati Royals from 1960 to 1970, and for the Milwaukee Bucks from 1970 to 1974. The 12-time NBA All-Star was named to the 50th Anniversary All-Time NBA team in 1996.
Marsh enjoys similar partnerships with several locally based food companies, a Marsh spokeswoman told Progressive Grocer. "We sell lots of products that are exclusive to Marsh. Our subsidiary, O'Malia Food Markets, is one of the only places to find Hollyhock Hill dressing, a popular item among locals. Marsh also carries signature pork and beef items produced by two local farms," she said.
