CHICAGO - According to legend, the famous Wrigley Building, on Michigan Ave. here, was made of a special limestone to show how white one's teeth would be if one chewed Wrigley's gum. Now chewing Wrigley's gum can also help clean America.
The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. has rolled out the first phase of its signature Wrigley's greenup campaign in which the company will donate 15 cents from every Plen T Pak of Doublemint, Juicy Fruit, Spearmint, Big Red, and Winterfresh gum purchased between July 1 and August 31 to Keep America Beautiful. Wrigley hopes to raise $200,000 for the nonprofit organization.
Wrigley is targeting teens because the company says that now, more than ever, teens want to make a difference in their local communities, and "greening up" the environment is one way to do that.
In mid-August Wrigley will launch the program's second phase, which involves a "call to action" that will give teens a chance to make a difference in their local communities with a "greenup" event. The second phase will begin with a free concert by a performer to be named later, for one teenager and his or her community.
