SALISBURY, N.C. - Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion, a unit of Delhaize America, is encouraging shoppers to "Take a Fresh Look at Food Lion" this week, as the company completes remodeling work at 68 stores in North Carolina's Triangle region.

Each store will hold a grand "re-opening" ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 1.

"This is an exciting time for Food Lion and our customers as we celebrate a fresh, new look, a new dedication to service, and a new focus on delivering the freshest and best foods every day," said Rick Anicetti, Food Lion president and CEO.

The remodels focus on Food Lion's fresh departments -- produce, deli/bakery and meats -- and feature a more inviting interior design, according to Anicetti. Each fresh department has a new design and layout, with new lighting and product fixtures.

A number of the stores have been completely renovated. Many of them now feature new angled aisles to help shoppers locate items more easily, relocated and enhanced freezer sections, and an innovative curved cash register area.

Providing a better presentation of the products, showcasing Food Lion's expanded variety and selection, was a primary goal of the remodeling work.

"We want shoppers to find our fresh departments comfortable, colorful and enticing," Anicetti said.

Stores also are now equipped with additional rear docks to receive products, such as bread, soft drinks and beer. This means delivery trucks will no longer occupy parking spaces in front of the stores.

Food Lion has designated October as its month-long "Fresh Festival" to alert Triangle-area shoppers of its stores' new look and focus on fresh foods. Using the theme, "Take a Fresh Look at Food Lion," Triangle-area stores, partnering with community groups, will host activities and events during the month. Shoppers are getting the word via advertisements, sales flyers and direct-mail communication.

The remodeled Food Lion stores are located in the following North Carolina towns/cities: Angier, Apex, Benson, Carrboro, Cary, Chapel Hill, Clayton, Durham, Franklinton, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Lillington, Louisburg, Morrisville, Raleigh, Wake Forest and Wendell.
