DALLAS -- As expected, the sale of Fleming Cos.' grocery wholesale assets officially came to an end at midnight Aug. 23.
A recap of the deals finds C&S Wholesale Grocers, based in Brattleboro, Vt., acquiring the company's divisions in Hawaii, Fresno, Sacramento, Sacramento GMD, LaCrosse, LaCrosse GMD, Massillon, and Milwaukee.
Fleming's Garland division was acquired by Grocers Supply, while its Miami division was acquired by Associated Grocers of Florida. The company's Nashville, Memphis, Memphis GMD, Tulsa, Lincoln, and Topeka divisions were acquired by Associated Wholesale Grocers of Kansas City.
With the sale finalized, the tenure of the company's interim c.e.o. and president, Peter S. Willmott, was also completed. Willmott continues to serve as a member of Fleming's board of directors. Nonexecutive board chairman Archie R. Dykes has assumed the responsibilities of c.e.o. and will continue to work closely with chief restructuring officer Ted Stenger as the company works through the remainder of its restructuring process.
The company says it will actively explore strategic alternatives for its remaining operational entity, Core-Mark International, a convenience distribution business based in South San Francisco.
