CINCINNATI - The Procter & Gamble Company has announced its intent to purchase U.S. market share data from ACNielsen effective July 1, 2003. Financial details were not disclosed.
"This decision is a reflection of ACNielsen's commitment to developing a market measurement solution that provides an accurate and comprehensive view of our brands' success in the marketplace," said Rob Steele, president of P&G's North America market development organization. "We look forward to leveraging ACNielsen's solutions to help P&G stay in touch with our consumers."
As a result of this announcement, P&G will end its U.S. relationship with Information Resources Inc. on June 30, 2003. "We have enjoyed a mutually beneficial and productive relationship with Information Resources Inc. the past nine years," added Steele. "We continue to have a tremendous amount of respect for IRI's organization, capabilities and product offerings and are open to exploring a potential relationship in the future."
Joe Durrett, IRI Chairman and CEO, commented on the decision in a statement released on Friday. "P&G is one of our largest clients and their loss will certainly be felt. Although we will no longer be P&G's primary U.S. market measurement supplier, we have had a strong and collaborative partnership with P&G in many other areas and we hope and expect that this relationship will continue."
