    7-Eleven Ready to Roll Fresh Foods Into California Stores

    LOS ANGELES - By working with multiple local food companies, leading convenience retailer 7-Eleven Inc. is ready to offer fresh-made-daily and fresh-delivered-daily pastries, sandwiches, salads, entrees, sushi, fresh-squeezed juices, dairy products and produce to customers in its Southern California stores.

    LOS ANGELES - By working with multiple local food companies, leading convenience retailer 7-Eleven Inc. is ready to offer fresh-made-daily and fresh-delivered-daily pastries, sandwiches, salads, entrees, sushi, fresh-squeezed juices, dairy products and produce to customers in its Southern California stores.

    Beginning on Wednesday, 692 participating 7-Eleven stores throughout greater Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside County and San Diego will introduce gourmet Big Eats Deli sandwiches; Elisa's Salads created especially for 7-Eleven, including Cobb, Grilled Vegetable Pasta and Crab & Shrimp Louie; 7-Eleven Kitchen entrees like Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, Mexican Beef Enchiladas and Szechwan Beef; California roll sushi samplers; and fresh-baked Big Eats Bakery donuts, cookies, Danish, muffins and croissants. Recipes for all new items were developed by a team of master bakers, gourmet chefs, nutritionists or culinary experts.

    To meet the challenge of delivering a daily selection of fresh foods, Dallas-based 7-Eleven has completely upgraded its infrastructure, including a proprietary network of bakery and commissary partners, state-of-the-art distribution center with a fleet of 44 trucks, and new daily ordering and delivery programs, in addition to specially designed store displays. A store can now place an order and have the items prepared fresh and on its store shelves, all in less than 24 hours, according to the company.

    "Fresh bakery is going to be a great addition for us," said Chuck Kronyak, fresh food merchandiser in Southern California for 7-Eleven Inc. "We will have hundreds more locations offering fresh baked goods than any donut chain operating in Southern California."

    Scott McCook, division logistics manager for 7-Eleven, Inc., estimates the number of store deliveries made each day will be reduced from eight to one. "Trucks deliver fresh food to the stores at night rather than at peak sales time," McCook said. "The average delivery takes just 12 minutes, and the store is stocked and ready to go before the morning rush hits."
