ROCHESTER, N.Y. - For the first winter since 1995 Wegmans will not be offering flu shots in the majority of its stores. It will continue the service in Buffalo area outlets.
"After much soul-searching and debate," read a statement on the company's Web site, "We've had to conclude...it's time to step away and leave this to public health authorities and physicians.
Wegmans cited uncertainty of vaccine supply over the past three years as the chief reason behind its decision. "That bothered us, because we don't like to disappoint our customers," read the announcement, which noted many flu-shot events had to be cancelled or rescheduled in recent years.
