The Magellan 8500 quickly reads bar codes on all six sides of an item using PSC patented SurroundScan 3D Scanning technology. Because checkers no longer need to stop to find the bar code, it significantly improves checkout speed and ergonomics. Intelligent decoding software integrated with the scanner allows reading of poor quality and truncated labels.

"The PSC Magellan scanners will significantly improve our front-end technology," said Pathmark chief information officer Bob Schoening. "After evaluating several options, we are convinced that the PSC Magellan system will give our stores superior performance and reduce the potential for lost sales."
