NFRA Reboots Ice Cream, Novelty Promo

    Annual event features new look

By Bridget Goldschmidt, Stagnito Business Information

This year, the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association's (NFRA) annual Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties promotion, which takes place during June and July, will feature a fresh new look, as well as enhanced marketing and PR opportunities for retailers and manufacturers to promote the popular category when sales are highest.

As in years past, the trade organization and participating manufacturers will sponsor a retail display contest and a consumer coupon and freezer giveaway during the event. Creators of the winning displays, which must incorporate sponsoring brands and NFRA point-of-sale materials, as well as direct consumers to NFRA’s Easy Home Meals website and Facebook page to enter the coupon and freezer giveaway, will receive Golden Penguin awards at NFRA’s Annual Convention, taking place this October in Orlando, Fla.

    Cool Bites and Mr. Food

Each week of the giveaway, randomly selected participants will receive exclusive manufacturers' coupons for all of the sponsoring brands, and a grand-prize drawing will provide the opportunity to win a Hussmann chest freezer.

Further, NFRA will publicize the giveaway and deliver key messaging through its website, blog, social media and Cool Bites consumer e-newsletter, and ice cream and novelties will be the focus of a Mr. Food Test Kitchen TV spot in July, with additional exposure via the MrFood.com website and e-newsletter.

Sponsoring brands this year are Kemps, Kemps Frozen Yogurt, Lindy's, Graeter's, IttiBitz, Fat Boy, Blue Bunny Champ, Blue Bunny Bomb Pop, Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom, Talenti, GNC and TCBY.

Harrisburg, Pa.-based NFRA, a nonprofit representing all segments of the frozen and refrigerated foods industry, also sponsors the March National Frozen Food Month, June Dairy Month and the October Cool Food for Kids educational outreach program.
