Progressive Grocer has selected Ahold USA as its 2014 Retailer of the Year, the leading grocery retailing trade publication’s highest honor bestowed annually in its October issue to but one supermarket organization in the nation.

"Foremost to our selection of Ahold USA this year is our heartfelt admiration for the vast and exceptional philanthropic contributions provided to the numerous communities served by the company's U.S. regional operating divisions, including Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro, Giant/Landover and Giant/Carlisle," said PG Chief Content Editor Meg Major. "While shoppers in its marketing territories readily associate Ahold USA’s retail banners’ messages of great prices, great places to work and great places to help shoppers find affordable healthy choices for their wellness goals," continued Major, "the company’s commitment to building close community connections – be it at the grassroots local level to massive relief efforts to help rebuild communities after catastrophic events – is enduring."

PG Editor-in-Chief Jim Dudlicek praised Ahold’s caring culture and commitment to good corporate citizenship, which have been at the forefront of the company’s success through the years, and which will be profiled in PG’s October 2014 issue. "We are delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the ongoing commitment and vital role Ahold USA's family of stores and associates play,” Dudlicek said, “not only as a better neighbor but also as an exceptionally responsible retailer in countless meaningful ways."

In addition to profiling the commitment and vital role Ahold USA's family of stores and associates play as both a local neighbor and responsible retailer in the communities that it serves, PG's editors will also explore the company's key team members, corporate vision and significant achievements in social responsibility and sustainability while showcasing the company’s innovative evolution.

The U.S.-based subsidiary of Ahold, an international retailing group based in the Netherlands, Ahold USA comprises four retail grocery divisions – Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro, Giant Landover and Giant Carlisle – plus Peapod, the online grocery service, which are all supported by the Ahold USA organization.
