    New Face, Fresh Perspective

Meet PGI's new editor-in-chief Katie Martin

    By Katie Martin, Progressive Grocer

While I am a new face now, I hope to become a familiar face very shortly. As the new editor-in-chief of Progressive Grocer Independent, I’m excited to discover the nuances of the independent grocery market and bring a fresh perspective to the coverage the magazine offers. I covered a tangential industry -- retail bakery -- for 15 years and during my years in that market, I was inspired by the passion, drive and spirit of the small business entrepreneur, all qualities found in the independent grocer.

Despite economic hardships, the independent grocery market is strong. You generate $130 billion in sales and provide 1.5 million jobs, according to NGA data. And at Progressive Grocer Independent, we are here to help you grow those numbers by offering best practices, new solutions and data to help provide a baseline by which you can compare your business to others in the country. We are here to become a resource for your business.

Let us know what information you want us to provide and don’t hesitate to share your own stories. I want to know all about you.
