    SpartanNash to Rebrand 3 Stores to Family Fare

    Distributor is converting SunMart formats to new banner

    SpartanNash has invested $5 million to remodel three SunMart stores – two in Fargo, N.D., and one in Moorhead, Minn. – into Family Fare stores. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies will be held at each store on Oct. 30. 

    “Shoppers love Family Fare’s ‘Things are good here’ commitment to creating a shopping experience that embraces local and state grown/produced products, builds on associates’ commitment to these communities, and delivers freshness and value,” said Dennis Eidson, president and CEO of SpartanNash.

    The Moorhead location, with more than $2 million in renovations, features a new welcome center offering popcorn and refreshments, a community room for cooking classes, a Caribou Coffee Shop, energy-saving lighting, a new bakery department and improved and expanded floral, produce, deli and meat/seafood departments.

    Fargo’s 25th Street location, which also includes more than $2 million in improvements, also features a new welcome center and Caribou Coffee Shop as well as café seating featuring a fireplace and free WiFi, a customer service counter in the center of the store, expanded floral and produce departments and improvements in the deli and bakery departments.

    The North University location in Fargo includes a remodeled welcome center, centrally located customer service, new bakery display cases, hot soup in the deli, energy-saving lights and freezer cases, new floors and shelving and a café seating 30 people with free WiFi in the nearly $1 million renovation.

    During the new stores’ grand-opening week (Oct. 26-Nov. 4), the company will donate $0.61 to the Roger Maris Cancer Center for every 10-pound bag of North Dakota Red Potatoes purchased. All three locations also will host several events, including trick-or-treating for children in the stores on Halloween, and a Decorate a Cookie children’s event and a Chili Cook-Off on Nov. 1.

    When Spartan merged with Nash Finch Co. last year, the new company dedicated $9 million for reinvesting in the region. The most recent remodels follow a $2.5 rebranding of West Fargo’s SunMart into Family Fare in August.

    SpartanNash operates 165 supermarkets under the Family Fare Supermarkets, D&W Fresh Markets, No Frills, Bag ‘n Save, Sun Mart and Econofoods banners as well as distributing to military commissaries, exchanges and independent/corporate-owned retail stores.
