    Price Chopper Taps Inmar to Manage e-Coupon Program

    Service includes unlimited clips and product, offer search capability

    The Golub Corp. has selected Inmar to manage the digital coupon program for the Price Chopper Supermarkets AdvantEdge Card shopper loyalty program. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Inmar took over digital coupon operations from Zavers on Dec. 1.

    As a result of this change, Price Chopper can now access Inmar’s nationwide open network and provide shoppers with offers from well-known, popular brands. AdvantEdge members can load the e-coupons directly to their loyalty cards from the Price Chopper website and automatically receive the discounts, with appropriate purchase, at checkout.

    "The greater availability of more attractive offers, the improved functionality of our coupon portal and the increased efficiency of our digital coupon program are all going to advance Price Chopper's efforts to deliver an outstanding and distinctively different shopping experience to our customers," said Heidi Reale, Price Chopper's director of shopper and digital marketing.

    Shoppers visiting the grocer's website can expect to have access to an average of more than 150 digital coupons at any given time. Loyalty program members can load as many offers to their cards as they want, as the previous 99-coupon limit ended with the changeover to Inmar. Further, a new search function on the site enables shoppers to easily find specific products, as well as offers for items they want to buy.

    "Price Chopper's focus on consumer engagement and their commitment to delivering real value to customers through digital coupons shows they have a true understanding of what it takes to maintain shopper loyalty," noted Inmar Chairman and CEO David Mounts. "Their leveraging of our technology is going to give them a very real competitive advantage in a very demanding marketplace."

    Although a major undertaking, the implementation of the new system, which also involved Toronto-based digital solutions provider Mercatus Technologies, took place in just a little more than 60 days, with no coupon portal “down time” and no interruption of service for shoppers or the retailer. With the conversion, Price Chopper became the first retailer among Zavers' former clients to switch to a new digital coupon partner. It was reported in June that the Google online coupon service would be discontinued, following reluctance on the part of some participating retailers to provide key customer information.

    The Schenectady, N.Y.-based Golub Corp. owns and operates 134 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Family-owned Golub employs more than 22,000 associates who collectively own 45 percent of the company’s privately held stock.
