    Hannaford Offers Gulf Coast Shrimp for Big Game

    Hannaford Supermarkets and the Gulf Seafood Marketing Coalition have joined forces to feature fresh, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico, along with game day recipes in the Northeast grocery chain's stores through Jan. 25 to mark the upcoming Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

    Wild-caught Gulf Coast shrimp, courtesy of the New Orleans Fish House, is now at all 185 Hannaford locations in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. Additional campaign features include Gulf Coast shrimp door clings, counter cards and recipe cards.

    "This partnership helps offer [Hannaford's] shoppers easy entertaining possibilities with the incredible, iconic taste that only accompanies seafood harvested straight from the Gulf of Mexico," said Joanne Zaritsky, marketing director for the Tampa, Fla.-based Gulf Seafood Marketing Coalition. "Simply providing Hannaford shoppers with premium Gulf Coast seafood products for their game day festivities is a win in the Gulf Seafood Marketing Coalition's book."

    This is the second team-up for the coalition and Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford, a Delhaize America banner: They also collaborated last October for National Seafood Month, offering customers Emeril's Wild American Shrimp and a recipe for grilled Gulf Coast shrimp with mango salsa.

    The coalition has previously forged successful partnerships with Demoulas Market Basket, Publix Super Markets, Roche Bros., Schnucks, Wegmans Food Markets and WinCo Foods. When contacted by PG, Zaritsky said that the group was planning a campaign with Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans that was set to kick off on Jan. 31.

    "Partnering with retailers is important to the Gulf Seafood Marketing Coalition because it provides shoppers the opportunity to experience and learn about an iconic, American brand that New England customers may not be able to enjoy on an ongoing basis," explained Zaritsky. "Our program makes it easy for retailers to offer their customers something new and flavorful."
