The National Grocers Association (NGA) named County Market, Quincy, Ill., "Best of Show" in Marketing, and Coborn's, St. Cloud, Minn., "Best in Show" in Merchandising, at The NGA Show in Las Vegas.
The association's Best of Show title is the highest recognition in its Creative Choice Awards contest, which honors the best marketing and merchandising programs in the independent supermarket industry.
County Market partnered with Mondelez International to host a sweepstakes through which consumers were entered to win tickets to see One Direction when they purchased two Oreo packages and scanned their Max Card. Running July 2 – 15, 2014, the contest was promoted in circular ads, emails, social media, text messages, print and digital signage in the stores.
Coborn's was honored for its chain-wide food drive hosted during the month of October. The effort supported the Minnesota Grocers Association's annual event to raise food and money for local food pantries.
This year's Creative Choice Awards, sponsored by Kellogg's and Unilever, judged nearly 300 entries based upon creativity, clarity and effectiveness. Campaigns held between Dec. 1, 2013 and Dec. 1, 2014 qualified for consideration.
