Save-A-Lot Opens 13 Stores, Focuses on Fresh

Supervalu banner’s new stores cross eight states

Missouri-based Save-A-Lot co-owners Paul Schnettgoecke, Matt Sauer and Wayne Sauer opened their ninth store earlier this year.

Save-A-Lot, Supervalu’s hard-discount grocery banner, has opened 13 new stores in eight states during the past month. The new stores are focusing on fresh with “a commitment to bring fresh produce, dairy and meat” to their communities, according to company officials.

The newest store opened in Rockford, Ill., on Feb. 26 and replaced a Schnuck’s store that closed in May. A second Rockford Save-A-Lot location is currently under construction. The other 12 locations are a combination of corporate-owned and licensed stores located in Lancaster, Akron and Eastlake, Ohio; Newburgh and Rome, N.Y.; Appalachia and Norfolk, Va.; Cambridge, Md.; Kewanee, Ill.; Memphis, Tenn.; Columbia, S.C.; and Tamarac, Fla.

Currently, more than 1,300 Save-A-Lots operate across the nation.
