The Fresh Market, Burris Logistics Renew Supply Agreement

Companies grew in tandem to maintain efficient supply chain

The Fresh Market Inc. has renewed a supply agreement with Burris Logistics, the Milford, Del.-based provider of customized retail distribution services, specializing in temperature controlled supply chain solutions.

"When we began to redesign the supply chain process for The Fresh Market in 2007, we operated from one distribution center and handled approximately 1,800 different products," noted Burris Logistics CEO Donnie Burris. "Today, through custom retail distribution, we manage the procurement, inbound logistics, warehousing and transportation services for more than 5,000 products. This includes The Fresh Market’s signature perishable offerings, as well as health and beauty items."

Since joining forces with Burris, The Fresh Market has grown by more than 100 stores. In turn, Burris has added a second distribution center, expanding its dedicated fleet and enhancing all aspects of technology for a seamless supply chain.

"The Fresh Market strives to make everyday eating extraordinary by providing fresh, high-quality products from around the corner, and across the globe," said Marc Jones, the specialty grocer's chief merchandising and supply chain officer. "As we have grown, Burris Logistics has grown with us —providing extraordinary service every day, while continually lowering our cost of distribution —supporting our goal to become the customer’s favorite place to shop."

Burris Logistics operates a network of temperature-controlled warehousing and distribution centers from Florida to Massachusetts. The company provides logistics, transportation and supply chain solutions via four operating divisions: Burris Custom Retail Distribution, Burris PRW Plus (Public Refrigerated Warehousing), Burris Transportation and Honor Foods (a redistributor of frozen, refrigerated and dry food service products).

The Fresh Market, based in Greensboro, N.C., operates 171 stores in 27 states across the United States. The company recently revealed that it would discontinue its California operations to concentrate on its core Eastern markets.
