Roche Bros. opened its flagship store today in Boston’s Downtown Crossing. At 25,000 square feet, it's the first large-scale supermarket in the neighborhood.
The new store signals a return to the family-owned company’s roots as the neighborhood is close to the original Roslindale Square meat market that started the business. "We've been committed to personal service, product quality, and community involvement ever since we opened in 1952," said CEO Rick Roche. "And now we have the opportunity to introduce Downtown Boston to that signature Roche Bros. experience."
In addition to bakery, deli, meat and fresh seafood departments, the store features a coffee bar and a selection of ready-to-eat meals prepared in the Roche Bros.’ kitchen, along with street-side seating and an outdoor fruit and flower stand. The full-service supermarket is located downstairs, offering an array of fresh and prepared foods and more than 700 grocery items that are new to Roche Bros. Additionally, the produce department’s Chop Shop offers more than 40 varieties of freshly-cut vegetables for home cooks.
With its proximity to many downtown businesses, the store features full-service catering, event packages and grocery delivery.
Larry Baxter, a Roche Bros. associate since 1983, is Downtown Crossing’s store manager; Marvin Alvarez and Krystle Bredeson were named assistant managers. The store will employ 70 full-time associates and 200 part-time employees.
Wellesley, Mass.-based Roche Bros. operates 21 locations.
