Blue Apron, which delivers recipes and fresh ingredients nationwide, has launched Blue Apron Wine, a monthly service available to its customers that delivers wines chosen to pair with Blue Apron meals.
"Like the grocery category, wine is a large industry with low online market penetration," noted CEO and co-founder Matt Salzberg. "Of the $38 billion in wine sales in 2014, less than $2 billion were direct to consumer. Wine pairings have been a top request from our home chefs since we launched, and we're excited about the opportunity to complement our Blue Apron meals with incredible wines."
The deliveries consist of six custom 500-milliliter bottles sized to pair with Blue Apron meals for two. Additionally, each wine comes with a customized tasting card telling the story of the vineyard, offering helpful tasting notes and providing information on how to pair the wine with upcoming Blue Apron menus.
Blue Apron Wine deliveries cost $65.99 plus tax, with shipping included. Customers can sign up for the service via their online accounts, and will receive deliveries monthly. Blue Apron Wine is available to existing Blue Apron customers, with plans to expand the product offering over time. All Blue Apron Wine orders are shipped and sold by Terravant Wine Co., in Buellton, Calif.
