Robert Irvine to Headline SJU Food Marketing Fundraiser

Food Network celeb chef appearance to benefit foundation

Chef Robert Irvine, star of "Restaurant: Impossible," will host an event at Saint Joseph’s University’s Academy of Food Marketing to benefit its Food Marketing Educational Foundation and the Office of Veterans Services.

Set to take place on Nov. 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Fretz Kitchen Showroom located in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, the cost is $125 per person and $75 for veterans.

Throughout the evening, donors can participate in several food-related activities as well as network with other food lovers. Activities will include learning new cooking skills, watching cooking demonstrations, sampling Chef Irvine’s “Better for You” food products at five action stations, and participating in wine and beer pairings.

“The Academy of Food Marketing at Saint Joseph's University is thrilled to have the support of Chef Irvine,” says Eileen P. Acello, director of development & recruitment for the Academy of Food Marketing. “We are expecting a great turnout from food marketing executives, fans and foodies. Our goal is to continue to raise scholarship dollars for the students studying Food Marketing at Saint Joe's.”

Irvine has worked in the culinary industry for 25 years in numerous locations, such as Europe, the Far East, the Caribbean, the Americas and on the high seas. He has hosted several shows on the Food Network, including "Restaurant: Impossible," "Dinner: Impossible," "Worst Cooks in America," and "Restaurant Express." In 2014, he founded the Robert Irvine Foundation to benefit members of the military and their families. The following year, he was named Honorary Chief Petty Officer of the Navy and was awarded the 2015 Bob Hope Award for Excellence in Entertainment from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

Based in Philadelphia, the Academy of Food Marketing was established in 1962 to educate students about food industry careers and to support the Department of Food Marketing and the Campbell Collection, one of the largest repositories of food industry information in the United States. It provides services such as scholarships, internships and cooperative education placements.
