SpartanNash Launches Habitat for Humanity Fundraising Campaign

Effort encompasses more than 150 stores and fuel centers

SpartanNash is launching a companywide fundraising campaign for Habitat for Humanity affiliates where corporate-owned retail stores are located.

At more than 150 grocery stores and fuel centers, customers will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 to their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate via any checkout lane during the campaign, which runs March 4-13. When customers make a donation, they will receive four coupons toward Spartan or Our Family brand products.

Stores will hold additional fundraising activities during the 10-day fundraiser. More than 50 affiliates will benefit from these donations.

SpartanNash has partnered with Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Michigan since 2006 and surpassed the $1 million donation mark in 2015. The company has also supported eight home builds with Habitat for Humanity of Kent County. The company has also sponsored LEED-certified homes, going back to 2011, and sponsored the 100th LEED-certified home by Habitat Kent in 2012.

“SpartanNash is thrilled to be working with Habitat for Humanity affiliates around the country to address the need for affordable housing,” said Meredith Gremel, VP of corporate affairs and communications, and executive director of the SpartanNash Foundation. “Habitat’s mission to strengthen families and neighborhoods through partnership, house building and affordable home ownership goes hand in hand with our corporate responsibility. The power of smaller contributions from generous individuals can build not only homes—but hope—for Habitat homebuyers. This temporary boost, along with their zero percent interest mortgages, is what makes dreams come true.”

Participating store banners are Bag ‘N Save, D&W Fresh Market, Dan’s Supermarket, Dillonvale IGA, Econofoods, Family Fare Supermarket, Family Fresh Market, Family Thrift Center, Forest Hills Foods, Germantown Fresh Market, No Frills Supermarket, Pick’n Save, Prairie Market, Sun Mart, Supermercado Nuestra Familia, Valu Land, VG’s and Wholesale Food Outlet

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SpartanNash's core businesses include distributing food to military commissaries and exchanges and independent and corporate-owned retail stores located in 46 states and the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Bahrain and Egypt. SpartanNash currently operates 160 supermarkets, primarily under the banners of Family Fare Supermarkets, Family Fresh Markets, D&W Fresh Markets, Econofoods and SunMart.
