H-E-B and Shipt, an app-based grocery delivery service serving 25 major metropolitan areas across the United States, have formed a partnership set to launch in the grocer’s hometown of San Antonio on May 25, with plans to expand to Houston, Austin, Dallas and other markets this year.
As well as providing 24/7 grocery delivery from H-E-B stores, Shipt will also provide on-demand grocery delivery for H-E-B banner Central Market. H-E-B and Central Market customers will be able to select and purchase their groceries through Shipt’s mobile app and schedule delivery as soon as one hour after placing their orders. The orders then will be fulfilled by Shipt’s network of shoppers.
“H-E-B is the type of grocer with whom we seek to partner due to their commitment to quality food, excellent customer service and dedication to their local communities,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Birmingham, Ala.-based Shipt. “Through our partnership with H-E-B, we will make life easier for busy individuals and families, while creating jobs across Texas.”
Ahead of the launch, Shipt will build a network of 300-plus shoppers and identify opportunities to support community organizations in San Antonio.
“We are connected to our customers throughout all of our markets, and always are looking for new ways to make the grocery shopping experience more convenient,” noted Greg Souquette, H-E-B’s SVP and general manager of San Antonio operations. “Shipt shares this commitment, as well as our belief in community development and engagement.”
Through the Shipt app, members can shop a full selection of groceries, note any preferences, choose a one-hour delivery window and pay for their orders. Customers who sign up for an annual membership before the May 25 launch will get $50 in grocery credit. A detailed map of the San Antonio coverage area is available online.
H-E-B operates more than 370 stores in Texas and Mexico, employing more than 87,000 associates in Texas and 9,000 in Mexico.
