Safeway, Sunoco Bring Gas Rewards to East Coast

    120+ stores participating in program

Safeway and Sunoco LP have teamed up to offer the grocer’s Gas Rewards program to Sunoco stations in parts of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Now Safeway shoppers enrolled in the program can redeem their rewards, up to 20 cents off per gallon, at Sunoco stations as well as at Safeway fuel stations.

The program is available at more than 120 Safeway stores in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C., with about 200 Sunoco stations taking part.

“Our Gas Rewards program is an easy and convenient way to save money while doing something you do every week — shop for groceries,” noted Safeway Eastern Division President Dan Valenzuela, adding that the program would “bring Sunoco customers, as well as our own valued customers, additional savings when they fuel up at Sunoco stations.”

“Sunoco is always looking for innovative ways to provide value to our customers and reward them for choosing our brand,” said Cynthia A. Archer, EVP and chief marketing officer at Dallas-based Sunoco LP.

Customers can register for Gas Rewards online at the grocer’s website or by downloading the Safeway App on an Android or iOS devices. Under the program, for every 100 reward points earned by shopping at Safeway stores using the Safeway Club Card, customers get a 10 cent-per-gallon gas Reward. Customers earn points every time they swipe their club card or input their registered phone number at checkout. Rewards are redeemed by entering a registered phone number at the pump or inside the station before fueling up.

Gas Rewards is also available in Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions and Carrs stores in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Part of Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons Cos., Safeway and its Eastern Division have more than 120 stores in Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Delaware. Albertsons operates stores across 35 states and the District of Columbia under 19 well-known banners, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, Haggen and Carrs.
